Gerry’s background in motorsports spans more than five decades, from his initial immersion as a fan back in the 1950s at one of racing’s most prestigious dirt tracks–the Reading (Pa.) Fairgrounds famous half-mile dirt track. Along the way, he did a little racing (go-karts) but found being a spectator, and eventually a motorsports journalist, more to his liking. He’s followed NASCAR, USAC, and Indy Car for many years and, after relocating to Florida in 2003, the local short tracks in Central Florida.
As a motorsports journalist, Gerry has covered many events at local tracks, as well as at NASCAR tracks reporting on K & N East series events. In 2010, he served as Information Director on the Florida All-Stars Tour, a touring series for Super Late Model and Late Model stock car racing. For the past ten years, Gerry has been a founding member, past president/Crew Chief, and key officer in The Villages Motor Racing Fan Club, an organization that has grown to prominence in the motorsports community. Congressman Bill Posey of Florida recently described the group with these words: “Probably the best group of auto racing fans in the state can be found at The Villages. They have a very diverse and active club which embraces the past, participates in the present, and helps guide the future of motor sports.”
Gerry has authored many articles on a variety of racing related subjects, including a feature article–AMAC’s Comeback Kid–published in AMAC’s national magazine, and a biography of one of NASCAR’s early pioneers, Arthur “Buster” Burt. He is a member of the NASCAR Fan Council.
