3 Organizing Hacks for a Super Summer!
Summer is finally upon us. But if your dreams of spring cleaning fizzled, don’t let your dreams of an organized summer get away from you!
Here are 3 tips to getting organized while making the most of your summer days!
Summer flip-flops, water shoes, beach bags, and sun screen may make their summer début, but that doesn’t mean it all has to pile up by the front door or on your dining room table. Designate specific areas in your house for specific items; a basket in the kitchen can hold your sunscreen, lip balm, goggles, and sun glasses. Twine hung along an outside wall is the perfect place to hold flip-flops and kids will enjoy using a clothes pin to hang them before coming inside. Make sure kids know where to put wet suits and towels to avoid soppy messes! If you have a washing machine, it may be that you prefer everyone to toss suits and towels there. Or, you may prefer that everyone hang their wet items outside to dry. Make sure the zones work for your needs and not just for looks. Functionality is the key to a stress-free summer.
Have an old armoire in your garage you’d like to sell? Why not repurpose it as a garden supply organizer? Repaint it and place it on your porch or back patio to store garden supplies, seeds, gardening tools, and your watering cans. Then, upload a photo of your finished project to an online sales site such as OfferUp or Craiglist. An old pallet hung along the patio wall, garage, or fence also serves to hold gardening tools, plants, or yard tools. Simply add a few hooks!
Ready to Go
Summer is a time for spontaneity! But sometimes our spontaneity bubble can burst if we become frustrated when we can’t find the things we need to get out the door on time. Organization can help! Set aside a ready-to-go bag filled with some important items for those last minute outings. If you are headed outdoors, keep a small bag packed with sunscreen, extra sun glasses, flip-flops, and a small umbrella. This way, all you need to grab is your water bottle and you are set for the day. If you have children or grandkids, a bag packed with a towel, goggles, sunscreen, and a swim suit will make it easy for those last minute jaunts to the beach or pool.
Pre-made goodie bags are a great way to be ready for those unplanned excursions. Simply prepare them ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator or pantry to grab-and-go when needed. Ideas include: grapes, cherries, string cheese, pretzels, peanuts, and trail-mix. Keep the kids water bottles filled with water and chilled too!
