Biotech Announces Vaccine for Zika Virus in Pre-Clinical Trial Stage!
Indian Biotech Claims to have developed Zika Vaccine
A manufacturer in India announced today that they have two possible vaccines for Vika, a virus spread through the bite of an Aedes mosquito. The virus has made headlines in the last few weeks as a surge of babies born with the serious birth defects were reported in Brazil and at least 20 other countries.
Bharat Biotech, based in India, began working on the vaccine in 2015 and their inactivated vaccine candidate is now in the pre-clinical trial stage and being tested on animals.
The virus is known to cause microcephaly, a defect that leaves a newborn baby with serious brain damage and physical anomalies of the head. Although this virus is not new, scientists around the world are concerned about its recent spread and are urging health officials around the world to take action to avoid a world-wide pandemic.
Krishna Ella of Bharat Biotech says they hope to announce the arrival of Zikavac soon.
