The 5-4-3-2-1 Summer Packing Hack!

If you are planning for a weekend summer trip, chances are you won’t want to carry large pieces of luggage or numerous bags filled with items you probably don’t need!

Follow these simple but effective packing tips for an organized and stress-free trip!

5) Tops

Choose 5 tops – be sure to include one, lightweight sweater for cool evenings.

4) Bottoms

Include one dress and one pair of trousers or jeans. Other choices include shorts or skirts.

3) Accessories & 3 Shoes

Choices include: belts, watches, hats, or scarves. For shoes: pack at least one pair of sandal and one pair of sturdy walking shoes or sneakers if you will be hiking, or walking.

2) swimwear

Include one suit and a cover-up.

1) handbag

This can be in addition to your travel purse – choices include: small shoulder bag to carry on excursions, or a small cocktail purse if your trip includes a fancy dinner stop.

Under-clothing – bring enough for every day of the trip- plus one!

Don’t be afraid to mix-and-match the above choices to tailor them to your specific needs.

For instance, if you will be planning a camping trip, you may opt for several pairs of hiking shoes and leave the flip-flops at home. If your trip involves several days at the beach, your accessories may include an umbrella or a beach mat.

Make sure to pack wrinkle-free and fast-drying items whenever possible; especially if you will not have access to a washer/dryer. Also, make sure to check the weather before the trip, to be ready for temperature fluctuations that may require you to adjust your clothing list. If you will be traveling with children, extra clothing may be needed.

If your vacation includes a shopping trip or two, make sure to pack lightly to ensure you will have enough room for the new clothes!


If you are traveling with a spouse or family member, consider packing half your clothes in one bag and half in the other. They can do the same. This way, if one piece of luggage is lost, you both will still have everything you need!
